A Check stop was erected Wednesday morning in the area around Sharp Hills. An RCMP peace officer at the scene told Discover Airdrie that the check stop was set up in the area as there have been complaints in recent weeks from residents about speeding.

Two peace officers on the scene were stopping cars in both directions and checking licenses.

When asked if the speeding and complaints were only recent, the RCMP confirmed that there has been a significant uptick since a road closure earlier this month.

On April 14, 2022, Range Road 294 (Kingsview Rd SE) North of Township Road 264 was permanently closed as part of the 40th Avenue interchange construction project.

The North end of Stage Coach Lane at Sharp Hill Way (40th Ave.) between Airdrie and Rocky View County was temporarily closed during this construction.

"As a result of the service road closure, Rocky View County will be limiting access to the Sharp Hills community to emergency access only by closing the North end of Stage Coach Lane at 40th Ave between Airdrie and Rocky View County using emergency gates."

Rocky View County planned to remove the emergency gates and monitor traffic utilizing the Sharp Hills community to understand potential impacts to the Sharp Hills Community.

The closure is due to the construction of the 40th Avenue interchange, which is expected to take 18 months and is scheduled to be completed in October of 2023.
