The canola industry is growing and as a result there is demand for a new crushing facility.

As a result of the profitable industry, Cargill announced a new canola crushing facility will be built in Camrose, Alberta.

The new processing facility will be ready for the 2014 crop and will be able to handle 850,000 tonnes of specialty and conventional canola.

"It's always better to have value added processing here than to ship it off shore," says ACPC General Manager, Ward Toma. "Currently we have three crushing facilities in Alberta and this facility will be the forth."

"It's a sign that the industry is strong and there is a very strong demand internationally for our product," Ward adds.

This will be the first new canola processing facility in Alberta in over 30 years.
