The scene has now been cleared.

Early this morning, As winter's grip persisted in Airdrie and the surrounding area, commuters faced a mix of conditions on the roads due to blowing snow.

A semi-truck slid off the exit ramp from Stoney Trail onto the northbound QE2 highway, and caused big delays in that area.

The exit ramp, described as a "sheet of ice," prompted caution among motorists, with other semis who pulled over onto the shoulder. Crews took most of the morning to clear the area and urged drivers to exercise patience and caution.

The gusty winds are still blowing snow onto road surfaces, particularly affecting bridge decks, exit ramps, and overpasses, which may become slick. Environment Canada forecasts a slight reprieve with temperatures expected to rise to 2 degrees today. While gusty winds are anticipated to persist through tomorrow, with warmer temperatures on the way, conditions should improve as the day progresses and the snow and ice begin to melt.

Commuters were urged to use their winter driving skills during the morning commute.

Motorists were also advised to take their time, maintain a safe distance from other vehicles, and ensure their vehicles are thoroughly cleared of snow before hitting the road.

The ongoing wintry conditions serve as a reminder of the importance of preparedness and caution during unpredictable weather patterns.
