Rocky View County resident Dolores Brigan walked away with $100,000 from a lottery ticket purchased in Airdrie.

She won the $100,000 prize on EXTRA for the January 6 draw at the beginning of the year. She waited to claim the prize six months later.

Brigan said she always holds onto her tickets for a while before checking them and tends to collect quite a few before taking them in, sometimes even pushing it rather close to the year deadline on prize claim.

“I was at the casino, and I hadn’t won anything so I thought I would just check all the tickets in my purse,” she chuckled. “I had to scan this one twice and then handed it to the cashier to check on her machine!”

The Rocky View local said her next call was to her husband. “I told him to come to the casino,” she said. “The staff had already started celebrating us and brought us glasses of wine!”

“I was a total wreck,” she laughed. “I just couldn’t believe it!”

Now that she's more accustomed to the idea of winning, Brigan plans to spend her winnings with love.

“I plan on giving my kids a present over dinner,” she explained. “It’ll be so nice to surprise them!”

“There are truly no words to describe how I feel,” she continued. “I feel like I’m going to explode!”

Brigan bought her winning WESTERN 649 and EXTRA ticket at Shoppers Drug Mart, located at 1200 Market Street East in Airdrie.
