A severe thunderstorm hit Airdrie Today (August 1st).

The storm brought Airdrie pea-sized hail, strong winds and heavy rain for a short period of time around 4:00 pm.

Dan Kuklak with Environment Canada says the worst is over but we may still see storms tonight.

"There was a number of severe thunderstorm warnings in southern Alberta and Airdrie had a big storm go over it. The storm moved to the east of Airdrie and is weakening. This type of activity will persist in southern Alberta over the next few hours and maybe into the evening."

Kulak also says its hard to estimate exactly how big the hail will be until after the storm is over.

"There are some predictions we can do based on our radar but they are first estimates but in general though nothing is better than a ruler on the ground."

As of 5:00 p.m Airdrie is still under a severe thunderstorm watch.
