Airdrie RCMP now say that one of their officers was injured last Thursday (October 17) when his police car was rammed by the driver of a stolen vehicle in the No Frills parking lot in Airdrie.

According to police, the incident occurred just after 4:30 pm when RCMP located a parked, stolen Ford F-250 pickup in the parking lot.  When the truck's driver noticed police behind him, he threw the truck into drive and drove between two police cars and rear-ended a third.

The suspect then drove over a median at a high rate of speed and headed south on Highway 2 toward Calgary.

The Calgary Police Service HAWCS helicopter was in the area and was able to follow the stolen vehicle.  Once it made it into the Calgary city limits, Calgary Police Service members tried to stop the truck.  The driver exited the vehicle and CPS officers apprehended him and took him safely into custody.

39-year-old Alin Alexander Daoud of Airdrie has been charged with 11 offenses, including:

  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm
  • Assaulting a police officer while resisting arrest
  • Flight from a police officer in a vehicle
  • Possession of stolen property over $5,000

Daoud has been remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear at Airdrie Provincial Court on November 7th, 2019 at 9:30 am.  He will also appear in Calgary Provincial Court on November 6th, 2019 to answer to several charges from the Calgary Police's point.

The injured Airdrie RCMP officer suffered non-life threatening injuries in the parking lot collision and is recovering at his home.
