On Sunday evening, Environment and Climate Change Canada ended a severe thunderstorm watch for Airdrie and the surrounding areas.

Previously, the watch stated that conditions were favourable for developing dangerous thunderstorms that may produce damaging wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

"Severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Be prepared for severe weather. Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!" the watch advised this afternoon.

The watch was also in effect for Cochrane, Olds, and Sundre.

Airdrie's local forecast is calling for a partly cloudy evening with a 60 per cent chance of showers or thunderstorms and risk of a severe thunderstorm, with a low of six degrees this evening.
