Airdrie's 2016 Rodeo Royalty was crowned at the Airdrie Pro Rodeo on Saturday, July 2.

Emily Marston, Miss Rodeo Airdrie, and Katie Hlushak, Airdrie Pro Rodeo Princess, were two out of five competitors hoping to be crowned.

After completing a series of tasks such as a fashion show, public speaking, writing an exam, showing their horsemanship skills, and many more, the two came out victorious.

Marston said she still can't believe it's happened.

"I thought I was repeating my own name in my head to begin with and I looked over at my parents and my Dad was giving me a thumbs up and told me to go into the arena."

Marston adds that she has been dreaming of this since she was little and the Airdronian has yet to come down from cloud nine.

Meanwhile, Hlushak said she was in complete disbelief when she heard her name being called.

"The emotions going into the arena were amazing. My heart was just going and I almost burst into tears and then I saw the cameras when I was coming into the arena and I had to try my best to keep it together."

The Queen and Princess are Airdrie residents, having graduated from George McDougall and they're looking forward to representing their city.

The girls only get a few days break before beginning their duties on Tuesday, July 5, starting with a pancake breakfast before heading to the Calgary Stampede.
