A business with an office in Airdrie is in the running for the Alberta Chamber of Commerce's 2019 Alberta Business Awards of Distinction.

Superior Show Service Inc., who set up shop in the city in 2015, is a finalist for the Marketing Award of Distinction.

Superior is an events contractor specializing in festival tents, trade shows, and corporate conferences.  They've been in Alberta since 1985, first going into business in Fort Saskatchewan before expanding to Airdrie in 2015.  Since 1993 they've been the official contractor at Spruce Meadows and have been at the Global Petroleum Show since 2012.

President Chris Sissons says even though most of their work is done in larger locations, he prefers to be in places like Airdrie.  "I always like the small towns, not that Airdrie's a small town but it's a smaller town than Calgary.  Our main office is Fort Saskatchewan and we find in the smaller communities it's easier to get loyalty in employees.  If you can find staff that live in Airdrie, it's easier to keep them happy."

Super Show Service has four full-time staff in Airdrie while the Fort Saskatchewan office has 18.

Sissons laughs when asked if the move to Airdrie was a good decision.  He explains that the timing turned out to not be that good but he believes it's starting to be a good move.

"It is proving to be but it has definitely not been as easy a move as we thought it would be.  We bought it in 2015, basing our projections on 2014 and there's definitely been a market slide in the last few years.  It's been tricky but it will be worth it when this economy spins around a little bit.  We'll be staged for greatness."

The Alberta Business Awards of Distinction will be presented at a ceremony on March 1st, 2019 at the Renaissance Edmonton Airport Hotel.
