The Silver Star Restaurant located at 1861 Meadowbrook Drive SE will be closing its doors permanently on January 29.

Sandy Tu, Manager of the Silver Star Restaurant, is excited to see what the future hold for the owners of the restaurant, which are her parents and her uncle and aunty.

“I guess they just want to pursue something else.”

Tu, who has watched her parents work so hard for countless years, is happy to see it come to an end.

“It has brought them everything that they can imagine. They were able to pay for things, buy a house, a new car, and then put us kids through school.” Tu continued, “now that we are older, we are able to take care of them, and we don't want them to work this hard."

The announcement of the restaurant closing first came over a Facebook post made by Tu. She could not believe the response she got.

“I did that not knowing how anyone was to going feel. The next day, my phone was just going off. Everyone was commenting and liking our post and it's just so overwhelming and really surprising.”

Although they are retiring, Tu does have some ideas so they can stay busy once in retirement.

“I have so many people reaching out to us asking for recipes and asking for cooking class. I already have an online course, which I'm doing. But when they're retired, I’m thinking of having them teach some cooking classes online. Whoever is interested, they're welcome to join and learn our special dishes that they have made for so many years.”

When the restaurant first opened up, Airdrie had around 12 thousand people.
