The City of Airdrie Engineering Services department has let residents know that 24th Street between Sagewood Drive and Yankee Valley Boulevard is being re-constructed in 2012.

The project goal is to improve connectivity. 24th Street is becoming an ever-increasing route for commuters to access south Airdrie and the QE II.

The City is building two lanes of an ultimate four lane divided arterial roadway. Traffic lights will be installed at the Yankee Valley/24th Street intersection as part of this project.

The current state of the roadway has its share of potholes.

The project is scheduled to start June 25 and wrap up by the end of October 2012. The construction will occur within the allowed times under the Noise Bylaw.

24th Street will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the construction project. The closure will be located south of the Sagewood Drive intersection to Yankee Valley Boulevard. Message boards will be located in and around the construction zone advising drivers of closures and subsequent updates. All signage and flag persons should be obeyed at all times.

The City would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding, as they work toward creating a new and improved roadway.
