100 Kids Who Care Airdrie will hold their first meeting this month.

Children aged 5-17 will come together at Living Springs Christian Fellowship the evening of September 27 to give back to a local charity.

Volunteer Nicole Lacoursiere says 100 Kids Who Care Airdrie is similar to their older counterparts' organizations.

"It's a replica very much of 100 Men and 100 Women. The same sort of idea where there's three charities. Each of the kids brings $10 versus $100 to make it more accessible to children," says Lacoursiere, adding they ask that the kids try to raise the money themselves so they have an understanding of giving their own money rather than asking their parents.

There is another notable difference with 100 Kids.

"They all come to the meeting, we draw three different charities. The only difference from the 100 Men and Women and 100 Kids, is the kids do the presentation on the charities themselves. So for some of them it's the first time they've ever done public speaking, so a little bit scary, but it makes them grow," says Lacoursiere.

100 Kids was first started in Airdrie back in 2016 by Kelly Boudreau and Natalie Graham-Long. The group donated to the Wild Rose Human Society in Didsbury, the Alberta Cancer Society, and the Boys & Girls Club of Airdrie before going on hiatus.

"It's a lot for two people to do and I think life just got in the way and it just kind of fell through," says Lacoursiere. "Natalie is no longer involved but Kelly is and I think it will have a huge following now that people have seen what 100 Men and 100 Women have been doing."

The revival of 100 Kids Who Care Airdrie was announced at the July meeting of 100 Airdrie Men Who Give a Damn.

100 Men will next meet on October 22 at Tap & Vine. Since starting in October of 2017, the men have donated nearly $82,000 to local charities.

100 Women Who Care Airdrie are set to clear the $100,000 mark. They meet this week and are currently sitting at $97,000 raised.

The Women will gather at Apple Creek Golf Course on Tuesday, September 17 where they will hear from the Airdrie 2020 Alberta Winter Games, Airdrie P.O.W.E.R., and Fuzzy Pickles.
