Airdronian Kyle McKearney was one of the many artists who performed at Country Thunder Arizona April 11-14. This was the second time McKearney has performed at a Country Thunder, last year he performed at the Alberta event.

"It was great. We had beautiful weather and the whole setup of the event and backstage was awesome."

According to McKearney, the backstage area had catering for the artists, and his own tent with air conditioning in it as it was a 34-degree day.

At the music festival, McKearney was the second artist on the stage for the opening day at 2 p.m. The headliner on Thursday was Lainey Wilson. McKearney was able to watch the other acts throughout the day.

"There were lots of people there watching the show and they seemed to appreciate it. I got to share some of my Canadian music with those folks."

When asked about which Country Thunder he liked better between Arizona and Alberta, he chose Arizona.

"Arizona is built for it and the weather was amazing."

McKearney did credit the venue of Country Thunder Alberta for its historical routes and being in a cool location but the cold weather is what made him choose Arizona over Alberta this time.

"We didn't think we were going to go on because of the weather and two minutes before we were supposed to go on the rain stopped, they cleaned the deck and threw us on stage."

McKearney does have a busy summer already planned, he will be performing at the Cavendish Beach Music Festival and Fred Fest 2024 in Fort St. John.

"Some other places I hope I can perform at one day are Under The Big Sky festival in Montana and Red Rocks Park and Amphitheatre in Colorado."

At the 13th annual Country Music Alberta Awards McKearney walked away with four different awards. He took home the prize for "Roots Artist of the Year", and "Video of the Year" with his and Sarah McKeearney's song "Whispering Pines". He also won "Songwriter of the Year" with his hit "Sober" and "Album of the Year" with "A Travelers Lament".

Currently, McKearney is working on his third album which will have 16 songs on it.
