Kim Thomas has started a petition in honour of her 17 year-old son, Brandon Thomas, who was tragically killed by a drunk driver back on December 6, 2012. She gathered over 1,000 signatures from locals in an effort to make the impaired driving penalties more severe in every municipality.

Last week, Airdrie's Member of Parliament Blake Richards presented the petition to the House of Commons on Kim's behalf.

Richards describes the reaction from the house, to the signatures.

What could result from the presentation of the petition are mandatory minimum penalties for a cause of death, or something of that nature.

With a 17 year-old himself, Richards commends what Thomas has been doing, saying "People like Kim Thomas are the example I need to point to, to try and make sure these kinds of things don't happen again."
