The Government Of Alberta is looking for your feedback on Youth Employment Rules.

The Government is hoping to hear your opinion on the new proposed changes to the Youth Employment Rules.

The proposed changes to the rules include youth workers being able to accept jobs considered light work such as food assembly and retail. Anything outside of the light work list requires employers to obtain a permit. The list of jobs considered light work can be found here.

Some other proposed changes include the way youth work at farms. This includes paid youth aged 13-15 that are not family, friends or neighbours can do any work that is deemed non-hazardous. Volunteering, babysitting, collecting eggs and doing farm chores are not considered employees and are not affected.

Over the past 18 months, the Government has been reviewing Alberta's labour laws in what the government is calling "The most extensive review of Alberta's labour laws since 1988."

Youth Workers, Parents, Guardians and employers can contact the government to give feedback until June 29th by emailing LBR.YouthReview@gov.ab.ca.

The hope is the changes will come into effect September 1st.
