Yellow Hat Day is fast approaching and organizers are in need of volunteers.

The second annual event takes place on Saturday May 4. Breanne McPhee, Volunteer Coordinator with Stephen’s Backpacks Society, says they are holding two different fundraising events at Apple Creek Golf Course.

“Upstairs we’re having a seated dinner with live entertainment and a silent auction, 18+. And downstairs is almost like a babysitting service to make it a whole family event. It’s Star Wars themed,” says McPhee.

This year’s theme is “Light Up Your Community” and proceeds of the event go to children in need.

McPhee says Yellow Hat Day is very important to her.

“It started in memory of the president of Stephen’s Backpacks Jim McPhee, my dad, who always wore his yellow hat. Regardless of what you do or how you’re helping your community, that you’re doing something to leave your community a brighter and better place to be in,” she says of his legacy.

McPhee says volunteers are crucial to having a successful event. Anyone 12 years of age or older can sign up to volunteer through the Stephen’s Backpack Society Facebook page or by emailing volunteersbs@gmail.com.
