What do you do if you name a group the 100 Women Who Care and then get more than 100 women out to one of your meetings?

If you're one of the 100 Women Who Care in Airdrie you say, 'come on in, join the fun, and let's give more to Airdrie charities.'

Stephanie Rabel, one of the founding members of the 100 Women Who Care in Airdrie had a goal in her mind of growing beyond the 100 mark, and on Tuesday night, that goal was met.

"We have 104 members.  Hopefully, our numbers continue to grow.  We have one more meeting left this season.  It's an annual type membership and we hope to continue those numbers and have the ladies from this year continue on until next year.  We just want to see that number keep growing and be able to help more people."

The way the 100 Women Who Care works is this.  Three non-profit groups are chosen to present to the group at each of their quarterly meetings.  After hearing from each non-profit the members at the meeting vote on the one they want to support.  That non-profit is then presented with a cheque at the next scheduled meeting made up of $100 multiplied by the number of women at the meeting.

Rabel says with 104 members at the February 27th meeting, and one anonymous donation of $100, they'll be able to give $10,500 to one Airdrie non-profit at their next meeting.

Rabel explains, "We had the Nose Creek Valley Museum, the Airdrie Over 50 Club and the Thumbs Up Foundation that presented at the meeting.  In the end, it came up as Thumbs Up was the most chosen charity by our group and they'll be walking away with $10,500.  We will be presenting them with their cheque on May 29th at our next meeting."

Rabel calls Thumbs Up a wonderful organization that can certainly use the money to do a lot of good.  "We are really excited to see what Kim (Titus) and her team can do with this money."

When asked what inspires a group like the 100 Women Who Care in Airdrie, Rabel thinks hard and then replies, "I'm not sure.  I think everyone has their heart in some sort of charity or non-profit organization in their community.  There are so many different charities and we still have that small town feel.  You can just see the excitement in all of our member's faces when they present and when the majority voted charity wins.  But you also see the ones who don't get chosen walk away with that big smile on their face because they were able to talk in front of 105 women and let them know about their organization."

During this week's meeting, Airdrie Angel was presented with their cheque for $9,100.  They were voted as the chosen charity at the group's December meeting.

With their donation to the Thumbs Up Foundation, the total given to Airdrie charities to date is just under $62,000.
