The City of Airdrie took in the scale of the house fire Saturday, June 18th, which devastated the community of Woodside the night before.

Following statements from Fire Chief Kevin Weinberger, and Mayor Peter Brown, the previously closed stretch of Woodside Boulevard was re-opened, and residents were able to take in the extent of the damages.

"Obviously our first primary concern was everyone getting out safely," said Mayor Peter Brown. "And we want to sincerely thank the first responders, they do an amazing job."

First responders from the Airdrie Fire Department were able to arrive on scene in 4 minutes and 56 seconds, but were forced to raise a second alarm due to the size of the fire, which saw crews from Rocky View County and Crossfield fire departments.

The blaze completely destroyed two homes, and two others suffered extensive interior and exterior damage.

As a precaution, 26 other households in proximity of the fire scene were evactuated, and a temporary reception center at Genesis Place was set up to house those who were displaced.

The location where the fire started remains under investigation, as well as the official cause.

"We've narrowed it down to one of two houses, and the investigators are just starting to look at it." said Airdrie Fire Chief Kevin Weinberger.

One Airdrie firefighter suffered a minor injury, but no other incidents have been reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by Fire Prevention Bureau investigators.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to contact the Airdrie RCMP detachment, 403-945-7200, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
