November 11th holds a special place in the hearts of thousands of Airdronians, especially members of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #288.

The Legion has been a staple in Airdrie  for many years, and their desire to always help local Veterans has never wavered.

Bob McNevin is Sergeant at Arms at the Legion and says everyone in Airdrie should acknowledge the moment of silence on Remembrance Day, but not just for those who served in the First and Second World War.

"In 35, 40 years, we've lost a lot of soldiers. We've lost a lot of men and women. Afghanistan, in Bosnia, the Falklands, peacekeeping in Cyprus, Egypt. We've lost a lot of men and women."

Bill Drummond, a former member of the the British Army and the Royal Military Police as well as an Executive Member of the Airdrie Legion, says remembrance always carries a deep personal connection.

"I lost two good buddies, it's not a nice situation. I hope to God, I really hope to God my children, none of my grandchildren will ever be involved in a war or a peacekeeping mission. I would like to see somewhere down the road that the world will come to acknowledge each other and acknowledge each other's existence."

Drummond and McNevin agree that looking back on what happened and why soldiers died for Canada's freedom should continue to be taught to future generations so that history doesn't repeat itself.

Members of the Legion will take part in tomorrow's Remembrance Day Ceremony at Genesis Place.
