On Sunday, November 6, all Airdronians will get an extra hour of sleep thanks to Daylight Saving Time (DST) rolling back the clocks.

With the time change, you may be scratching your head wondering why you continue changing the clocks twice a year when 79% of the planet doesn't alter time.

The introduction of Daylight Saving came in 1908 in Thunder Bay, Ontario as a means to conserve energy and make better use of daylight; 8 years later it was introduced in Germany to reduce the use of coal.

These days though, there's a debate on whether or not we are truly reducing energy with the one hour time shift.

There are many studies that show that during daylight saving we actually spend more on fuel and travel more, leading to pollution.

In 1986, the BBQ and charcoal industry lobbied to extend DST due to the increased revenue.  With the four week extension in DST, the industry gained $200 million in sales.

Approximately every 20 years since 1966, DST has been given an extra month, with daylight savings last 8 months out of the year.

The question to ask yourself is will time ever stand still?
