With the beginning of summer just weeks away, you might be wondering what to expect weather wise the next few months.

According to Kirk Torneby, a Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Airdrie and the surrounding areas could experience a very warm summer.

"This summer looks to be above normal in terms of temperature across most of Western Canada, especially through areas in Alberta."

Torneby says that there's nothing unusual about the warmer temperatures, compared to last year's El Nino season.

"This year, things have settled down a bit. There's not a lot of large scale features really driving the weather, it's more back to more normal like conditions."

Of course with the warmer weather comes plenty of rain fall and the risk for thunderstorms and even tornadoes.

"Every thunderstorm has a potential to create a tornado, it doesn't necessarily mean it's going to happen," says Torneby. "When they do occur, they are damaging and they are to be noticed that's for sure."
