According to the World Meteorological Organization, 2016 is set to be the hottest year on record, and Southern Alberta has been no exception.

Meteorologist with Environment Canada, Kirk Torneby, points to a particularly strong El Niño and an unusually warm spring as factors in Southern Alberta.

"When you look at the numbers, the spring in Calgary was actually the second warmest Spring on record."

Torneby expects this warm weather trend will continue for the remainder of the year, but said it is too early to tell if it will persist into 2017.
