Canada Day is approaching, and Chair of Volunteer Airdrie Dave Maffitt says they are in desperate need of volunteers.

Currently, there is a need for about 70 volunteers at the Parade and 150 at the festival. Maffitt says the volunteers play a vital role in the day's festivities, especially when it comes to keeping things safe at the Parade. Many of the volunteers are supposed to be stationed at junctions and intersections along the parade route.

"What we're trying to do there is prevent any local traffic from actually going onto the parade route during the Parade. So it's a safety issue."

Maffitt says if you are in town for Canada Day, you should consider volunteering your time.

"If you're going to be in town anyways and watching the parade, we suggest to people why not be part of the fun and be a volunteer. You do get some swag and a t-shirt, so there's something in it for you as well. Plus you get the best seat in the house."

You can sign up to volunteer here.
