Airdrie's 2016 Terry Fox Run is back on track, thanks to a local Teacher who has volunteered to organize this year's event.

Kyla Van Leeuwen with Atlas Learning Academy, has offered to fill the role of Event Organizer.

"Kyla has actually been a school organizer for the past three years, shes an athlete herself, which is a kind of bonus, and shes very enthusiastic," said Rhonda Risebrough, Provincial Director with the Terry Fox Foundation. "She actually is a graduate of the Terry Fox School in Calgary, which is really cool."

Van Leeuwen will be joined by a committee of volunteers, who with the help of the Terry Fox Foundation, look to best last years $8,750 in funds raised.

Since 1984, the city of Airdrie has raised over $209,000 for the Terry Fox Foundation, which raises funds for cancer research across Canada.

"Its a family oriented event, and its all inclusive, its just a nice Canadian tradition in September. The funds raised go to cancer researchers all across Canada, including Alberta."

This year's event is being held Sunday, September 18th, and organizers will decide on the location over the coming months.
