Airdrie will be hosting the 2020 Alberta Winter games next February.

The games will see more than 2,800 athletes, coaches, officials, and performers competing in a variety of sports in and around Airdrie.

With so many young athletes and teams participating in activities around the city, hundreds of volunteers will be needed to make sure it runs smoothly.

Recruitment is already underway for volunteers and board members.

City Councillor Ron Chapman said Airdrie residents always step up to help so he’s confident they will have enough volunteers sign up.

“We will be looking for a lot of people,” he said. “It’s daytime, it’s evenings, they’re being put up here. There’s lots of flexibility because all of these athletes have to be fed.”

The games will take February 14 to the 17 of next year.
