Volunteer Airdrie has applied for the CIP Operational Grant and City Council is showing their support.

The CIP Operational Grant or community initiatives program is a provincial grant offered by the Government of Alberta and is available to not for profit groups once every three years.

The last time Volunteer Airdrie had the grant was three years ago and it funded their operations for close to a year.

The maximum amount of the grant is 60,000 dollars plus an additional 15,000 as organization development funding.

Dave Maffit Chair of the Board for Volunteer Airdrie says its budget will all depend on the money they receive.

"It's going to be a function of how much we get awarded, there is no guarantee you get the full amount you apply for. in 2015 we got about 60% of what we qualified for so we will need to take a look at what they award up and adjust our budget accordingly."

Volunteer Airdrie plans on using the grant to afford the telephone, insurance, events and services the group utilizes while in the community.

At Tuesday's (May 22nd) City Council meeting council decided to write a letter of support to increase the chances of the group receiving the grant.

"it's really important for us to have city council to support us, the provincial government is looking to see if the group in questions has community support"
