Around 850 runners set out to out wit and out run hundreds of zombies on Saturday, July 23.

Zombie Survivor hit the Cochrane and District Agricultural Society grounds for another successful year.

Event organizer Elizabeth Lewis said the event went extremely smooth.

"We are thrilled with how much fun everyone had at our event this year, and there will be an event in 2017."

The 5km run not only tested runners physical skill but their mental fortitude as well, as runners tried to survive the zombie apocalypse.

The runners had hurdles to climb over, water holes to wade through, and a scare house to navigate through during the 5km course.

One runner, Tyler from High River, said the run was awesome; it was hot, lots of zombies but he never survived.

"I was dead, it took them a couple minutes (to be infected). There was big groups of zombies, anywhere there is a group of them, there is just no getting around them."

Lewis said the zombies did an amazing job this year.

"The zombies of 2016 dominated the race; they had so much fun, there were so many unique and memorable zombies. There were kilted zombies, there were clown zombies, I saw puppet zombies, bed sheet zombies, and office worker zombies."

Besides all those that participated, Lewis was thankful for the amazing volunteer base which attributed to the event's success.

"There were some people who took a week off of work just to come to our event, people who traveled from other cities, other provinces, they brought their loved ones together to have a really good time, let's get scared, let's laugh, and get to know our community."

Next year you can expect to see some new twists to the popular run that brings out runners province wide.
