RCMP from Beiseker are working together with several other units in an exhaustive investigation into two vehicle thefts that occurred in Beiseker within six days of each other.

The police have now released surveillance photos and have linked the two incidents.

The first occurred at 6:00 am on July 22nd when a homeowner noticed that unknown suspects broke into a residential garage and stole a 2016 Dodge Challenger from it.  During the theft, the suspects also made off with several keys including ones to a black Dodge 3500 truck which was stolen on July 28th.

During the second theft, a resident from the house tried to stop the stolen truck and was struck by it as it fled the scene.  The man received non-life threatening injuries to his lower body.  He was examined by medical personnel at the scene and released.

A red Kia Sportage and the stolen Dodge pickup fled from the town of Beiseker on a rural road and were observed by the Airdrie RCMP who initiated two motor vehicle pursuits that were called off a short time later due to concerns for public safety.

The Kia was observed during both the July 22nd and 28th incidents and the Beiseker RCMP have determined that both thefts are associated.

Police have come up with several surveillance photos from various locations, including Airdrie and Cochrane.  Corporal Laurel Scott says she can't give the ins and outs of exactly how they got so many pictures.

"There were different detachments involved in working on this.  I think one of the factors is that these vehicles were seen and possibly dealt with by police in other jurisdictions and that's how we were able to do so linking and sharing of information between detachments, we were able to make these connections."

RCMP in Beiseker continue to work with the Airdrie based Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit as well as with the RCMP Auto Theft Section to further the investigation.

According to Scott, the RCMP are counting on tips from the public to also move the investigation along.

"Yes, there have already been some tips and we're certainly confident that putting out these photos will generate some more tips.  We typically have good success when the photos are put out to the public and the public is always eager to help us."
