Emergency services responded to the scene of an accident on Highway 9 Saturday, September 3rd.

Crews arrived at 11:45a.m., and it was determined that a northbound semi-truck had collided with a smaller southbound car.

"EMS crews were met by the semi truck driver, a man in his late 60's who was able to self extricate from his own cab. EMS assessed him and determined he did not sustain any injury and he did decline any hospital transport," said Stuart Brideaux, Publications Officer with Alberta Health Services.

The lone male occupant of the car was declared deceased on scene.

Significant damage was noted to the car and upon impact, the semi-truck left the highway, landing on it's side in a field.

STARS Air Ambulance was initially contacted, but due to the nature of the incident, a landing was not required.

RCMP are still investigating the cause of the crash.
