The City of Airdrie is about to get a whole lot bigger.

City council approved the planning of two new neighbourhoods at their meeting on Monday, October 3rd.

"These two neighbourhoods are actually offering more single family homes than others we have approved in recent years." said Mark Spence, Senior Planner, City of Airdrie.

Cobblestone Creek and Chinook Gate are part of the proposed Neighbourhood Structures Plan (NSP), and will occupy six quarter-sections in Chinook Winds.

With construction starting in 2017, Chinook Gate will feature 828 homes, and will be phased out appropriately. Cobblestone Creek wont get underway until 2019, and will feature 1,200 homes.

"They're not gonna come in all at once," said Spence. "In the mean time, they City intends to make improvments to the infrastructure, not only the services, but also the transportation infrastructure."

An amendment was also approved for the Chinook Winds Community Area Structure Plan (CASP)
