A truck was stolen from a rural property near Irricana on Wednesday night (July 4), setting off an unusual set of events according to Beiseker RCMP.

Around 11:30 pm Beiseker RCMP responded when a truck was taken from the rural residence.  The RCMP say the vehicle was an easy target as it had the keys in the ignition with the doors unlocked.

One of the homeowners pursued their stolen vehicle in their SUV while the other homeowner contacted police.

The one pursuing the stolen truck followed it down a side road off of Highway 9 where he was sideswiped by another truck and forced off the road and into the ditch.  The SUV sustained minor damage along the passenger side of the vehicle.  The homeowner was not injured in the incident.

The stolen truck and the one that sideswiped the SUV continued north onto Highway 9.  The stolen truck was later recovered abandoned on Range Road 264 between Township Road 270 and 271 in the early morning and is being examined by the RCMP's Forensic Identification Services.

Beiseker RCMP are still trying to locate the second vehicle which is described as a black late 2000's Chevrolet truck with recent damage that would extend from the front driver side bumper along the driver side of the truck with possible silver paint transfer.

It's unknown at this time just how many suspects are involved or their descriptions.

If you have any information about this incident or spot the suspect vehicle call the Beiseker RCMP at 403 947-3420 or call your local police.  Contact Crime Stoppers at 1-8900-222-8477 if you wish to remain anonymous.

The matter is still under investigation and Beiseker RCMP are asking members of the public to not involve themselves in trying to recover the stolen property but instead to contact police.

They also say to lock and secure your vehicles at all times.
