While students headed to the new Fireside School can look forward to some transitional events, most RVS schools will face some kind of change this fall.

Fiona Gilbert, RVS Ward 6 Trustee, says many schools will see a shift in population this fall.

"All Rocky View School's within the town of Cochrane, with the exception of the two high schools are going through some form of transition this year; some big impacted like the opening of the Fireside School and some not so much."

RancheView School will accommodate grade 8 students this fall, Mitford School will change from grades 4-8 to grades 5-8, a second French Immersion program will be added to Glenbow School which in turn impacts Elizabeth Barrett's population changing it into a K-5 school, while Manachaban will become a 6-8 school.

Even with slight change, the community culture of all schools will be impacted.

"It will probably change a little bit school by school. There will be a big culture change at Glenbow for example, with the welcoming of the French Immersion families. So I think  depending on what that change is, there is definitely that opportunity. There will be staffing changes as teachers move around, there will be a new administrator at the Fireside School, and a new administrator at Manachaban so those are all things that will impact the culture."

Families transitioning to Fireside School can look forward to some events later this school year to build excitement and a jump-start on creating their new school culture.

"We are trying to get kids exited about the change. There will be some student activities at the school with the Fireside students, as well as, a family BBQ later on."

With ongoing construction, dates and location for activities have not been firmed up yet.

As a division, the goal for RVS is to make the upcoming transitions as smooth as possible, with all students and families feeling supported.
