ICE bus riders who get picked up at two stops along Eighth Street can expect changes starting today (January 19).

"We've done some pretty significant construction to improve the accessibility and safety of our stops along Eighth Street between Woodside Way and Woodside Link," said Transit Team Leader Chris MacIsaac. "We're relocating two existing stops and amalgamating them into one stop."

The City will be closing down the southbound Eighth Street at Woodside Way and southbound Eighth Street at Woodside Link stops. MacIsaac said the new stop is located halfway between the two stops and coincidentally will take the name southbound Eighth Street at Woodside Way. MacIsaac said the new stop can be seen from both current stops.

The two stops are being closed for safety reasons.

"They were loading either from very close to the intersection for the pedestrian crossing at both of those existing stops. We decided that was not the most safe environment to either be stopping the bus or making our customers wait, so we've moved the stop to a more midpoint location."

MacIsaac said construction has been completed at stops along Eighth Street, and the new stop has a concrete apron and a solar powered bus shelter for riders to use.

While the change takes effect today, MacIsaac expects there will be a transition period while riders learn about the new stop. The change does not impact local routes, and no other changes are planned at this time.
