Back in 2014, the City of Airdrie began working on a light synchronization project to get all the traffic lights along Yankee Valley Blvd. to run smoothly and efficiently.

Today, those lights are synchronized but according to Ken Velcic, member of the Engineering Services with the City of Airdrie, there are still some tweaks to be made.

"The side street traffic was encountering a lot of long waiting queues, so that's sort of the casualty of synchronization. So now, we're working through trying to see if we can accommodate everyone."

New equipment and infrastructure are still being brought in to ensure efficiency.

"We're installing new controllers, video cameras, detection cameras, we're collecting more data," said Velcic.

Velcic adds that once 40th Ave is opened up next year, traffic patterns within the city will change dramatically.
