The town of Carstairs has continued to see growth in its residential and commercial sector year after year.

Mayor Lance Colby says residential is continuing to grow on target.

"Carstairs has been on a continual growth pattern of about 15-16 homes a year and that's been steady for the past four or five years, this year we have built 25 new homes and our population has risen to around 4600."

Colby says the town is seeing a lot of steady development in residential and now the commercial is beginning to grow as well.

Carstairs is located approximately 34 kilometres northwest of Airdrie and with a population of 4600 Colby thinks the small town feel is attracting new residents.

"I think a lot of people like small towns and Carstairs is becoming a safe haven for those that want to escape the cities yet still be close."

According to Colby a lot of young families have been moving to Carstairs.

"We are getting a lot of the young families moving here, its reflective in our schools, we generally have around a 90-100 wait list for kindergarten in our schools."

A new school is one of the top items on the town's priorities and just recently put their ten-year plan in place.
