There's good news for users of Airdrie's Town and Country Centre.

After being closed for nearly three weeks, the popular facility officially re-opened its doors today (June 23).

According to  Dari Lang, the City of Airdrie's Team Leader for Bookings and Events, heavy rains on June 4th caused damage to the T & C's roof, kitchen, hallway and small hall, forcing many renters to scramble to find other facilities.

"28 rentals were affected.  Some were one time rentals and some were long term rentals, regular users of the facility.  We contacted the majority of them within the first few days of knowing the facility was going to need some substantial repair.  We either relocated them to another space or they found their own space or some of them just cancelled for that one or two bookings that they may have been affected while the facility was closed."

The Operations team at the City brought in Alberta Fire and Flood to ensure that all technical matters were taken care of and to be certain that safety matters were handled correctly.  That done, Lang says,  "They moved forward with the repairs, and here we are."

Lang says the Town and Country Centre is a very well used facility.  "We have a number of regular users who use the facility weekly.  We have weddings, fund raisers, trade shows.  It's a very active community centre."  In fact, Lang points out, "We have a wedding tomorrow."

Alberta Fire and Flood have inspected the damage remediation and have given approval that the repairs are complete and meet all safety standards.
