The Airdrie Public Library hosted a unique gathering of Airdrie and area authors, after hours when the library is normally closed.

In celebration of Canadian history, the library opened it's doors last night (February 10) from 7:00 to 9:00 pm for a reading and book talk by authors Nancy M. Bell, and the husband and wife pair of Jude Pittman and John Wisdomkeeper who each read from their books which are a part of the Canadian Historical Brides collection.

Pam Mathieu of the APL explained the collection by saying, "The series was funded by the Government of Canada.  It was done by a local publisher, Books We Love and the collection has a different novel for each province and territory in the country and three of the authors are based here in Airdrie."

Mathieu says each story is about an immigrant bride or groom who came to Canada from diverse backgrounds to be married to someone from Canada.  She says each book is very different, encompassing all areas of Canada and combine fact and fiction to tell stories about their struggles to build new lives in the young country.

Bell is the author of His Brother's Bride which represents Ontario in the collection.  Pittman co-authored Pillars of Avalon representing Newfoundland and Wisdomkeeper is the co-author of Fly Away Snow Goose (Nits 'it'ah Golika Xah) representing the Northwest Territories and Inuvik in the series.

The authors all read from their books, answered questions from the people who turned out for the evening, then signed books.  Wisdomkeeper also did a drum performance that tied in with his book.
