It's been a long time away from home for Airdrie's Ryan Straschnitzki but the 19-year-old can finally make the trek back.

The Straschnitzki family posted on Twitter that they were indeed coming home today (July 4th) and are expected to arrive back later this afternoon from Philadelphia.

Ryan spent over one month at the Shriner's Children's Hospital in Philadelphia undergoing rehabilitation following his paralysis.

During his time in Philly, Strashcnitzki was greeted by many supporters and met with the Philadelphia Eagles, Flyers and Phillies. He also reunited with his Humboldt Broncos teammates at the NHL Awards late last month.

As the family prepares to come home, many in the community are helping renovate the Strashchnitzki house for Ryan.

Phil Dell, the father of Airdrie NHL goalie Aaron Dell has set up an email for any interested tradespeople who want to help with the project.
