With new jobless rates showing a darker side to the Alberta economy, Airdrie is still keeping their heads up.

On November 30th, Airdrie Economic Development held their annual luncheon to show where the city is sitting financially and what the next year holds.

"Airdrie is known as an entrepreneurial city, we're known as a city who's open for business and I continue to think we have a great market here," says Economic Team Lead Kent Rupert.

Rupert touched on many aspects of the local economy, including jobless stats and where the city sits compared to the rest of the Province.

The luncheon also included guest speaker Todd Hirsch, Chief Economist with ATB Financial, who addressed the ever looming question: Have we hit bottom?

"In oil prices yes, in the labour market probably not yet. I think we can anticipate a better year in 2017, albeit it will feel very recessionary for a lot of job seekers in the Province."

Overall, Rupert and Hirsch agreed that Airdrie is still growing and holding steady in an uncertain economy and will continue to do so in 2017.
