In the last two weeks 5 individuals have lost their lives in car accidents along Highway 9.

Although each of the accidents were related to different causes, Srgt. Randy Poon of the Airdrie Rural RCMP said that in many ways it came down to distractions in one form or another.

Poon also attributes some of the issues to the width of the road, and drivers misjudging the distance to make a safe left hand turn.

Many of the accidents that are seen on Highway 9 resemble similar incidents on highway 2 said Poon.

At the end of the day, Poon said that the best way to prevent an accident is to plan ahead, leave yourself plenty of time, drive with caution, and remove any distractions before getting behind the wheel.
