Tara Slone, the co-host of Hometown Hockey that's taken over Cochrane for the weekend, leads a busy life.

Part of what's kept her busy these past few days in the foothills of the rockies has been enjoying the magnificent scenery that Cochrane is set in.

"The landscape is just stunning.  The foothills have a particular presence, it's hard to describe.  It's peaceful and energetic at the same time.  I love the foothills.  Where Cochrane is located is just magic to me," raves Slone.

Even though the scenery takes her breath away, Slone says she's even more impressed by the people she's met.  "In my experience so far, everyone has been overwhelmingly kind.  Tara and Travis Eklund from the Wineglass Ranch are just beautiful people."  Slone and Olympic Skeleton bronze medalist Melissa Hollingsworth helped the Eklunds round up some cows as they shot a segment that will air on Hometown Hockey.

Slone and her husband are both somewhat under the weather.  To help them out she says, Dr. Leahy came on her day off and saw them, something Slone could hardly believe.  "That's been a running theme, everyone here is nice, just lovely people!"

Aside from enjoying the people she meets and places she gets to see, Slone also enjoys being the co-host of Hometown Hockey, something she's shared with the iconic Ron McLean since October of 2014.   She says she enjoys working with McLean because what you see, is what you get.  "Not everyone on television is the same person on and off screen, and Ron is exactly that person,  I think that's what makes him so lovable and why he's so embraced by the country.  He is that affable, warm person."

The Hometown Hockey Festival is at the Spray Lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre for the entire weekend.  Besides her trips to the Wineglass Ranch and the Yamnuska Wolf Dog Sanctuary, there is another Cochrane highlight that Slone plans to take in.

"I plan on making a trip to Mackay's Ice Cream."

What visitor to Cochrane wouldn't do that?
