The Canadian Dollar continues to rise, hitting a price that it hasn't been at in 2 years.

The Loonie closed to 80 cents US for the first time since 2015.

Here in Airdrie, Kent Rupert with Economic Development says there is reason to be optimistic.

"We're so tied to the US Dollar. With the US Dollar weakening that helps sort of raise the Canadian Loonie so I think overall optimism is probably the biggest thing at the community level...At the retail sales, it would impact consumer confidence. Anyone that's doing trading with the US, it certainly helps as well."

However, Rupert points out that the positives could be temporary as the dollar could rise and fall quickly as it has before.

"I think there's some caution we have to look at, because it does fluctuate, certainly over the last probably three years it has fluctuated."

As local consumers could see some benefits, the biggest rewards will be felt by those taking their travels to the US this summer, as a higher Canadian dollar means more in their pockets for their holiday.
