A collision between a truck and a SUV warranted STARS to be deployed yesterday (July 3) afternoon.

Around 3:00pm, Cochrane EMS responded to a collision on Highway 22 and Big Hill Springs Road involving two vehicles, each with a lone driver.

Factoring in the damage to the SUV as well as the driver's age, EMS requested STARS to attend the scene.

The driver of the SUV, a woman in her late 70's, required extrication from her vehicle and was treated by paramedics at scene. Sustaining possible head injuries, several soft tissue injuries and a concern for an arm fracture, the woman was flown to Foothills Hospital in serious condition. The driver of the truck sustained only very minor injuries and did not require EMS transport to hospital.

RCMP are investigating the factors leading to this collision.
