Cochrane RCMP are seeking the public's assistance in finding more details about a motorhome fire on Highway 1 near Highway 40.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on June 20, RCMP responded to a report of a vehicle fire, upon arrival RCMP discovered a partially burned out motorhome with one occupant who had escaped the fire.

The male occupant advised RCMP that he had awoken to unknown persons(s) near his motorhome, and it had been set on fire.

Corporal Sharon Franks, RCMP Media Relations Spokesperson, says the reports are concerning.

"The nature of the fire itself is suspicious," she says. "We also have a report of what appeared to be a sound of an explosion in the area as well."

The 32 year old male, from Red Deer, was transported to hospital, but it is not known what his injuries are.

RCMP, assisted by the RCMP Police Dog Service, as well as Calgary Police Hawcs Helicopter searched for possible suspects, but did not find anyone.

Franks adds RCMP are not sure if anything was taken from the motorhome, or why the man was parked on the highway.

"It sounded as though perhaps he was on his way through there and just pulled over. At this point it is still under investigation, once the owner of the motorhome is able to speak with us we will be able to determine some of those details."

RCMP are asking for public assistance in this investigation. If you have witnessed any suspicious activity in this area of Highway 1 and Highway 40, contact the Cochrane RCMP at 403-851-8000.
