City road crews are hitting the street for the official start of the 2019 Street Sweeping Program.

Orange signs will be popping up on the corners in communities across the city letting residents know at least 48 hours in advance when their street will be getting cleaned of the gravel and debris left over from winter.

Residential street sweeping takes place between 8:00 A.M. and 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. Each neighbourhood belongs to a sweeping zone and the Roads Department will work their way through the zones until the entire city is complete.

Signs will be posted 48 hours in advance of the start of sweeping. If inclement weather doesn't allow for sweeping to begin or be completed on the dates posted, dates will be updated to reflect this.

Residents are reminded they must remove their vehicles from the street when sweeping is occurring. Those who don’t move their vehicle risk it being tagged and towed by the City.

Drivers may park in alleys while sweeping is happening but are reminded not to block off emergency access, or access to driveways, garages and backyards.

Other ways residents can make the sweeping process more efficient and effective are:

  • Obey construction signs, slow down and use caution when approaching or passing equipment

  • Don’t sweep your driveway and sidewalk debris onto the road

  • Remove your advertising signs from boulevards and medians

  • Remove ramps or other obstructions from the gutter in front of your driveway

  • Maintain vegetation (trees, shrubs) and structures that may obstruct equipment on the road right-of-way

Street sweeping will begin in the community of Reunion, Williamstown, Silver Creek, Stonegate, Fairways and Woodside. To see the street sweeping schedule map click HERE.
