Storm is changing their name after 8 years in the Airdrie music scene.

The group will now go by the name of Flaysher, in an effort to re-brand and better market themselves as a group.

"It's a brand new name that will allow us to establish our own brand," said Brad Fleischer, lead singer and guitarist for Flayscher.

The decision comes alongside the release of the band's new EP 'Starting Over,' which is their first release under their new name.

Changing the bands name has been on their minds for a couple of years now but with the recent surge in original material, it has become more necessary.

Having opened up for Tom Cochrane and Red Rider to playing countless local events, the band has achieved a sort of longevity that is uncommon among young acts.

"No garage bands really last too long typically, and I think a lot of people thought it was just gonna fizzle out," said Fleischer. "And now for it to last eight years and then for us to turn around and do something as big as a name change, I think a lot of people... it will capture their attention."

Fleischer adds that the band will be seeking professional assistance in designing new merchandise and apparel in the near future.

As for long-term plans, the group will keep performing and is eager to begin writing for their next project.
