For the second time this morning Cochrane RCMP have blocked off portions of the Cochrane hill on Highway 1A.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff says if you can, give it a couple of hours and then head out.

"Give it a little bit of time for the snow to subside a little bit, for the sanding crews to get caught up, it usually doesn't take that long for the conditions to improve significantly by waiting those few hours."

Cpl. Savinkoff says Cochrane RCMP have responded to many accidents in and around the area this morning, including a jack knifed semi going up the big hill, and a bus that eventually corrected itself on 1A by Ghost Lake.

The big hill historically is closed when weather like this hits, shares Savinkoff.

"It happens about once a year where we get these heavy, wet snowstorms which form ice underneath it and when those horrible factors compound the Cochrane hill becomes very treacherous."

People are slowly getting through but a big portion has been closed so sanding crews can do their job.

At this point no big injuries have been reported.
