Downtown is always a topic of conversation for Airdronians, and now there's another question that's come up: what's happening with the vacant lots?

Stephen Utz with Airdrie's planning department says that when it comes to these lots, they're working on getting a plan ready.

"Council voted in favour of developing a new downtown plan which we indicated would start in the fall of this year and conclude probably around June, 2019. The intent of that plan would be to consult and collaborate with the landowners and see what the development potential would be for those vacant lots."

Whether or not any new building in downtown will be single or multi story will depend on what feedback the City gets through this planning process.

"At this point in time we want to have the conversation with the landowners and with the public in general about what redevelopment options would be for the downtown," says Utz.

At the moment, there's no firm dates for when public consultations will officially take place, as Utz says the planning process is still in its infancy stage.
