The City of Airdrie is making changes to pick up days for Waste and Recycling in some communities.

Tracy Pagenhardt, Program Coordinator with Waste and Recycling explained why they’re making these changes.

“We haven’t made any big changes to our collection days for about 8 to 10 years. As you can imagine with increased growth and new communities on board, we need to review those collections days just to ensure that our collections contractors have an even distribution of houses to collect each day. Some days they are collecting 5 thousand houses and others they’re collecting 2 to 3 thousand.”

The communities affected will be Windsong, Sagewood, Prairie Springs, Big Springs, Willowbrook, Sunridge and Midtown.

“Just under 4 thousand houses,” said Pagenhardt. “We have almost 18 thousand houses that are being collected right now. In the big scheme of things, it’s small but it certainly does affect them.”

With Airdrie growing at a fast pace, new pickups times needed to be set especially with the number of new communities being built.

“Most of them we try to keep them grouped together,” said Pagenhardt. “For sure, check the collection schedules, all the details are on there.”

The City will be mailing out postcards to inform residents of the changes, you can also check the schedules on the City of Airdrie website.
