A new Catholic School is one step closer to being built in Airdrie.

Still far away from completion, dignitaries met with trustees to break and bless the ground. A priest attended the ceremony, praying and sprinkling the ground with holy water.

The new school is slightly larger than most and will accommodate around 750 students. Funding for the school was announced earlier in March and will house kindergarten to grade six.

The school will have additional portable classrooms and is scheduled to open in 2020.

The site for the school is located in Morningside. The Catholic School Board also has four other schools in various stages of development.
